You can tell search engines exactly what your web page is about so that if a person searches for that topic, there's a better chance they'll find your page. To help the public find your page, keywords need to be typed in the section of your HTML page. The following is an example:
Just because your web page is registered by all the major search engines does not mean it will get noticed unless it appears somewhere near the top of a search list. To appear at the top of the search list, create a title for your page. The closer your page matches what a potential visitor types, the higher your page will appear on the list. Place your TITLE tag below the section in your HTML page. Here is an example: Rock Racing Info. Rocks, Stones, Pebbles, Limestone, all kinds of Rock Racing
Type a few words that describe the topic discussed on your page. Separate each word with a comma and a space.
You can help increase the traffic to your site by submitting your site to a search engine's database. This can be done by adding your web page to the search engine's URL page. For example, Yahoo's URL page is at http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html; just type your web page URL in the appropriate text box and click the submit button. Provide a page that is linked well throughout your site as you need lots of links pointing to your site so the search engine will find it. Visit the search engine in two weeks and search for your site. If it does not appear, submit it again.Just because your web page is registered by all the major search engines does not mean it will get noticed unless it appears somewhere near the top of a search list. The TITLE tag is one of the most important components of a search engine, so limit the number of two-letter words and prohibit the use of very common words like "as," "the" and "a," because the search engines ignore them. Also, use keywords wisely and give descriptive information about your site. Keep your page short and select words that are as close to the top of your web page as possible.

Great tips. I always take extra precautions when I write a post and I focus on SEO rather that submissions to search engines.
For beginners though, I think it's a great idea. Google, yahoo, and Bing tend to recognize posts even if you don't submit. It just depends on the quality.

I love that your posts are short and sweet and get right to the point. They really help me out and I like that you don't over-explain anything. I actually didn't know you could submit your site. I thought that they just chose you..

Is it a really good thing to submit your site to search engines? I think it is telling them that your site is new and it should not be really be trusted. I don't submit my site, search engine bots would find it.
